"Hang In There” (HIT) Project

"It's times like these you learn to live again,

It's times like these we give and give again ..."
(Foo Fighters)

"There are only 3 colors, 10 digits, and 7 notes; it's what we do with them that's important".
(Jim Rohn)

Some lyrics and sayings can really resonate with us and touch our hearts. And as I reread the latter, I nod and nod. In the end it’s what we do with the tools and resources we have on hand that matters. Based on assumptions like the ones above, I can wholeheartedly say that a fundamental part of Go Ahead’s purpose is to provide our students with valuable and creative solutions. Last but not least, more than a decade ago students were already having online classes with us … that’s Go Ahead thinking ahead!
In times of uncertainty, fear, and isolation – either physical or psychological (or both), we sought new and fun ways to be closer to our students and bring them not only more knowledge, but also more fun. Bearing that in mind, “Hang In There” (HIT) project started last March, 20th. The project consists of weekly extra (and free!) lessons, where groups of 4 to 10 students gather online to practice their English, to learn new things, to interact, and to network. The experience has been rewarding in many senses, especially when we realize that the attendees always “leave” the room much happier than when they joined it – and this is priceless.
Based on the questions raised by HIT’s participants, I’ve come up with the idea for the “Drops” series. A series of short videos, namely “Grammar & Vocabulary Drops” and “Pronunciation Drops”, is being devised to clear out students’ doubts and to help them complement their weekly studies on grammar, vocabulary, and to learn more about pronunciation. The “Drops” series consists of two to three weekly one-and-a-half-minute videos posted on the teachers’ and the school’s social media, and also sent to students via Whatsapp. Teacher Inês and I have been in charge of the project in addition to being the “cheerful victims” on each video. So far so good, hopefully!
Always aiming to help our students pave the way to go ahead … more and more we take pride in everything we do!

Thank you,
Teacher Fabi
